Demand is high and constantly growing

Demand for products from sustainable fibre composite materials is constantly growing in the mobility sector. The significance of fibre composites in this sector will become more and more relevant as time passes.

Composite materials made of biobased plastics reinforced with natural fibres can be an ecological alternative to fibreglass-reinforced petrochemical composites. In order to make this sustainable alternative a generally competitive product, and thus to substantially improve the environmental impact, it is necessary to take the next step towards industrial-scale manufacturing.

This will require further developments and progress, such as process technology for a scaled-up manufacture of sheet materials, the design of components and choice of material, and comprehensive test series for different types of fibres and resins by Bremen University and GREENBOATS. The aim is to bring the three variables of performance, cost and sustainability more and more into line.
