The funding for neighbourhood initiatives makes a structural contribution towards strengthening the local economy, boosting economic output, and enhancing internal cohesion in the individual neighbourhoods. The aim is to improve the economic and social situation in the neighbourhoods.
Neustadt district management is involved in the association called WIR Neustadt Bremen e.V. It organises four main seasonal events and draws on funding from the ERDF programme: the first event is held in spring, the neighbourhood schnitzel hunt (paper chase) called Neustadt bewegt dich (Neustadt moves you); in summer there is the Summer Sounds music festival in the old town wall area of Neustadt; the Piepe-Leuchten lantern festival, consisting of a big lantern race with a final event at Lake Piepe, takes place in the autumn, and the year ends with the Neustadt Advent Calendar, in which at least one attractive event takes place in Neustadt each day in the run-up to Christmas. In parallel to these main events, there are smaller campaigns and public relations work, chiefly via the printed media, which generate attention and positive effects.
